Yarelys Augusto Jimenez

Post Doc

Yarelys Elena Augusto Jimenez is a post-Doc passionate about medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. Her professional experience includes the development of synthetic methodologies based on multicomponent reactions and the synthesis of peptides in solid phase and in solution.

Yarelys holds a PhD’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Quebec in Montreal. The research was focused on the development of DNA methyltransferase inhibitors (DNMTs), and aimed at identifying non-nucleoside inhibitors of DNMTs, particularly DNMT3A, by combining a rational design, analog synthesis, and molecular docking approach. She also holds a Master's degree in Physical-Mathematical Sciences from the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico based on the application of the Fe3O4 peptide-nanoparticle system in biomedicine. This work was published in 2021 in Molecules, under the name of “Antioxidant Activity of Bioactive Peptide Fractions from Germinated Soybeans Conjugated to Fe3O4 Nanoparticles by the Ugi Multicomponent Reaction”. Yarelys also holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, obtained at the University of Havana, Cuba, on the synthesis of peptide-steroid hybrids by Ugi-4C-Tetrazole reaction, whose results were published in 2015 in the Organic Letters journal, under the name of "Aminocatalysis-Mediated on-Resin Ugi Reactions: Application in the Solid-Phase Synthesis of N-Substituted and Tetrazolo Lipopeptides and Peptidosteroid.
